This was one of my first luxury masks, I purchased it in a kit with their famous solid cleansing balm and it is nice. I’m talking about Eve Lom’s Rescue Mask.
Eve Lom is a UK brand founded by, you guessed it, Eve Lom. She was raised by her “witch doctor’ grandmother who often recruited eve to go in search of certain plants to help in healing her grandmother’s unwell patients. upon fleeing her native Czechoslovakia after the Russians invaded she ended up in Paris for a short while before moving to Hollywood. In Hollywood, she fell in love and married. She slowly rekindled her love of botany and self-care and became a facialist. With an ever-expanding clientele and a well-respected work ethic, she started to make her name within the industry. Eve Lom has founded her company on the belief that products don’t need to be complex and riddled with unnecessary ingredients. She has tried to maintain a small repertoire of products that target the real needs of women and their skin.
Her second most famous product is today’s mask, her rescue mask.
KAOLIN, AQUA (WATER), GLYCERIN, ALCOHOL DENAT., MEL (HONEY), PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND) SEED MEAL, PHENOXYETHANOL, CAMPHOR, MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, CALCIUM CHLORIDE, MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, ALUMINUM CHLOROHYDRATE, ALLANTOIN.
The ingredients list is short, however, that doesn’t mean the ingredients themselves are small. She has combined a few key ingredients to make the mask as successful as it is.
- Honey: Soothing, moisturizing, and it garners some anti-bacterial properties
- Almond seed: A mild exfoliant to slough away dead skin and leave the complexion fresh.
- Camphor: Cools the skin upon application which can help with inflammation and it helps to decongest pores
- Kaolin Clay: Absorbs excess oil and reduces puffiness
When I first applied this mask it was cool and had a strong camphor smell, it was overwhelming but manageable. As the mask dried down the smell did seem to subside quite a bit. I had applied a thinner layer and so when the mask dried I was able to brush off the majority of the mask. What didn’t come off with a brush of my fingers came off with a damp washcloth. My skin felt softer and lighter and the redness on my face had subsided quite a bit. I felt like I had just taken a blend photo tool to my complexion and softened it out.
This mask is definitely a staple item in many people’s routines and I do see why however when I researched the cost of this mask I was BLOWN AWAY $112 CDN for a medium-sized jar. That just seems astronomical. I know this mask works and I know it feels good and decongests the skin but I’m just not sure I could stomach that price tag were it to become a staple in my routine.
What’s the most you would spend on a face mask? Is $112 over your price limit?
